John Darke may have been a vicar choral at Exeter Cathedral between about 1514 and 1526 and again between about 1541 and 1571. His Magnificat, which is based on an unidentified cantus firmus, is written in the rather restrained style that gained ground during the last ten or fifteen years of Henry VIII's reign.
