Description

A contemporary and compatriot of Josquin des Près, Marbriano de Orto was also his colleague in the papal choir during the 1480s and 90s, and like Josquin he received the unusual honour of having several of his Masses printed by Ottaviano Petrucci. His music shows marked individuality, particularly in its fondness for mensural complexities (more evident on paper than to the ear) and its contrapuntal licence. This first volume in Antico's complete edition of Marbriano's music contains his Missa Ad fugam which probably dates from the early 1480s; as its name suggests it consists of a series of canons. For four voices: alto or treble; tenor or alto; tenor or alto; bass or baritone. viii + 24 pages.
